The AVetmore school was first taught in 1868 withA. S. Kenoyer as schoolmaster. The village was incorporated in 1882 and the first election resultedin J. A\. Grahams election as ma3-or and AMlliam Morris, E. H. Chap-man, \Mlliam Bazan, Joseph Haigh, E. F. Yilott as councilmen and AI, Cassity, police judge. These men for most part have remainedidentified with ^\etmore and its AUTOMOBILES ON THE MAIN STREET OF WETMORE, KANS. AAetmores greatest venture on the road to fame came from • itsmineral springs, which in the eighties were found to be of medicinalvalue and water was bottled and shipped far and wide. The springswere not made a health resort, but for years the waters were sent abroadto heal the ailing. Another venture in the world of notoriety drifted Wetmores waywhen a hanging for horse thievery occurred near there. The allegedhorse thief hid in his sisters house, which was attacked by a mob. Themob dragged the wretched boy forth, hanged him to a tree-and went awayleaving the ghastly picture a blot on the landscape and on the memoryof Nemaha count} s fair history. The occurrence was not in Wetmoreslimits, rather nearer to Granada, a settlement now erased.
