The unique Great Basin (Nevada) practice of "fish smoking" is of much interest, since it seems to be, in view of its isolation, a local invention. Unfortunately, we lack details as to what type of water body was treated, the plant which was burned, and effects on the fish. There is little to discuss, since we lack full, specific information. Hura crepitans L. is cultivated in Mexico as a fish-poison.
