Galena, AK - United Methodist volunteer Bill Smith, of Washougal, Washington, works inside the house Paddy Nollner, whose home was damaged from the spring flooding. Alaska suffered severe flooding along the Yukon River in May and June after a longer than normal winter and rapid increase in temperatures. A river ice jam occurred near Galena which caused flooding and wide-spread damage by high water and large sheets of ice. Local, state, and federal volunteer agencies continue to prioritize repairs for current shelter residents to reduce the need for winter sheltering. — in Galena, AK.
