Metoposaurus diagnosticus (Meyer 3). Syn. Metojnas diagnosticus (Meyer4). Labyrinthodon diagnosticus, Owen 5. The type and only described species. Skull attaining a length of 0,450. Hah. Europe (Germany). 37938. The imperfect cranium; from the Middle Keuper (Upper Trias) near Stuttgart, TTiirtemberg. The occiput is im- perfect, and the extremity of the muzzle is wanting. Both the frontal and palatal aspects are shown. This specimen, which is mentioned in the ' Bep. Brit. Assoc' for 1S7-J:, p. 157, is considerably smaller than the entire skull figured by Eraas in the ' Pakeontographica,' vol. xxxvi. pis. xii., xiii. The vomers are very clearly shown, and have the teeth arranged as in Capitosaurus. HdberJein Collection. Purcliased, 1862. Ge^us non clet. The Eabyrinthodont represented by the undermentioned species appears to be allied to Jletojjosaiirus and Cajritosaurus; the asso- ciated teeth represented in fig. 36 are, however, larger than those of Eis.
