Other filters, such as rubber, wood, gauze, paraffin, etc., are used in making up the applicators. The Use of Dental Compound Applicators.—The form of applica-tor which is chiefly responsible for the development of the enameledsilver tubes is the dental compound moulds originally used by Dr. Jane-way. These applicators are made as follows: The dental modellingcompound is placed in hot water for a few mintites, after which it is. FIG. 2.—Dental modelling compound moulds of mouth shows the grooves after the silver tubes have been taken out. Radiuim 21 quite plastic and movilds of the lesions to be treated may be made compound is applied over the lesion, moulded into the desiredshape, and left in place until it has cooled and hardened. It is thentaken out and the area to be treated is marked on the impression withink. In this area deep grooves are excavated with a hot tool, care beingtaken not to alter the shape of the mould. Silver tubes containing thedesired amount of emanation are placed into the grooves, which arethen filled with paraffin. Then the applicator is placed upon the lesionand left for the proper length of time. As a rule, the treatment is notgiven the same day, that the mould is made. Usually the impression istaken at the time the patient is examined, soon after coming to the hos-pital. The patients name is written on the back of the applicator andan appointment
