Walking Bus Route sign
The 'walking bus' as a means of taking children to school was started in Australia in 1992 and introduced to England in 1998 in Hertfordshire. Schoolchildren are accompanied on the walk to school by two adults - a 'driver' in front and a 'conductor' following. There is a fixed route with stops and times for collecting children.
