Apollo Sauroktonos (Lizard-slayer). From Palatine Hill, Rome. Boyish Apollo leans against a tree, watching a lizard that he will kill with an arrow originally held in his right hand. The statue is a close version of a famous bronze by the Athenian sculptor Praxiteles of c360-340 BC. A few other versions are known.
