He was l)orn the 26th day ofApril, 1844, in the Township ofBlackman, Jackson Co., Michi-s^an. on a farm five miles north ofthe City of Jackson. His father,William Roijers Dodge, was hornat Uoomville, X. Y., in 1816, on afarm ; came to Michigan in 1836and settled near the City of Jack-son. In 1841 he honght a farmof 80 acres of wild, uncultivatedland. He was always a lere Charles K., with his fourhrothers, spent his hoyhood in theprimitive oak forest of \Ir. Dodges ancestor, Richard Dodge, came over from Englandin 1638 and settled on a farm near Beverly in Massachusetts. Hisgreat grandfather. Ehenezer Dodge, was a soldier of the Revolu-tion, and his hody rests in the cemetery at Keene, N. H. is a member of the Sons of the American Revolution.
