The southchamber contained nothing, but the floors of theother two were covered with charred remains of m ri-tings. There was also a good deal of burned wood. The papyri were in ahopeless condition. Most of the lower ones were reduced by fire and dampto a mass of white fibrous pulp. The upper parts consisted of soft charredlumps witli which nothing can be donc. Only a very few fragments werein such a condition that the leaves could be flaked off. A few coins were. 0. 1. î. 3. 4. S. Fig. u — 155 — [2] picked up near the papyri. The only two that I could identify withoutfurther cleaning were (i) Aurelian and Vaballathus L A and (2) Probus. In the N. They ail bore the impression of a sheet of papyrus on theback and had evidentiy been affixed to some documents. There was noimpression of string on them, hence it was not for tving up the papersthat they were used. Below is a list of the subjects which I bave been ableto make out. Though the same subject often recurs, there are not manvacfual duplicates from the same seal. I. Head of Sarapis to right, wearing Similar to n 1 ; of varions sizes. 7.
