When imminent danger threatened he nevercalled in vain for their services. He ordered Sedgwicks Divisionto support the direct attack on Yorktown, in April, 1862. Heordered Burns Brigade to make the first reconnoissance of theenemys works from Yorktown to Lees Mills, which was perform-ed by the Seventy-Second and One Hundred and Sixth Regimentswith success, and was of vital importance.
