I 84,477,480 *In comparing the number of appropriations with the number of churches still upon theroll which have been aided, it should be noted, asappears in the columns of payments, thatabout 5 per cent, do not call lor their appropriations, that about the same number have re-ceived more than one appropriation, and that others from one cause or another are eitherdissolved or consolidated, the actual average increase in the number of churches upon theroll of the Assembly beine about 65 per cent, of the number rei)oned as organized. Previous to 1S70 the Board of (lliurcli Extension ((). S.) did not .secure its grants, num-bering 1422 and amounting to 8518,780, by mortgages. Since then mortgages have been takensecuring all appropriations. Of these about 20 per cent, of grant mortgages have been can-celed either by repayments or recoveries, a
