The Duke of York Column in Waterloo Place at the top of the Duke of York Steps from The Mall in central London.
The Duke of York Column in Waterloo Place was designed by Benjamin Dean Wyatt as a memorial to Prince Frederick, Duke of York, the second eldest son of King George III. The Duke was the commander in chief of the British army and following his death in 1827 the army voted to donate one day's wages to pay for a memorial. The monument was completed in 1834. It is 13 ft 6 in ( m) high and weighs 16,840 pounds (7,640 kg) and was raised on 8 April 1834.
