The pointed cone landfill in the primeval forest at the gates of the city of Saarbruecken was created by dumping the spoil heaps of the Kirchheck shaft, which belonged to the von der Heydt mine. Since 2002, the primeval forest at the gates of the city has been allowed to develop into a natural ecosystem, largely unaffected by man and freed from forestry. Over time, the formerly bare slag heap has developed into an overgrown Smal Fuji, as the landfill is popularly known.
