William J Hardee, Confederate general, : J Rogers


William J Hardee, Confederate general, 1862-1867. Hardee (1817-1873) commanded a corps at the Battle of Shiloh (1862), fought in the Atlanta campaign (1864) and resisted William T Sherman's march through Georgia and South Carolina. After the war he settled down on an Alabama plantation.
