Aircraft flight flying over the Maido SUMMIT Mafate and islets. Circuses: Mafate, Cilaos and Salazie. At the foot of the Piton des Neiges three impressive open circuses which can only be accessed through narrow gorges. Circuses are Mafate, Cilaos and Salazie, a gem for mountain lovers. Two of them are within walking distance: Salazie and Cilaos but Mafate only be reached on foot or fly by helicopter. Inside live some native communities, many of them descendants of slaves who fled the plantations of sugar. Despite its isolation, in tourism have opened and even offer cheap hosting. Salazie circus is perhaps the most beautiful of all, though not the largest.
