Big Red sand dune an iconic Australian landmark at the start of the Simpson Track near Birdsville, Queensland. Situated approximately 35 kms east of Birdsville . Big Red (original name Nappanerica) stands well over 30 metres tall and is part of a series of around 1,140 parallel sand dunes stretching across the desert. The dune is red from rusting iron particles in the sand and provides a challenge for any 4WD enthusiast.
