Chateau du Rivau, door to the Ecuries Royales

The Chateau du Rivau is situated at Lemere, about 5 miles South of Chinon and a few miles East of the famous Abbey at Fontevraud. It was built in the 15th Century by the Beauvau family. Le Rivau is one of the first ornamental castles to be built in France. It was acquired by the Laigneau family in the early 1990's and has been carefully restored along with the gardens, which are classified in France as a Jardin Remarkable. The property also incorporates the Royal Stables (Ecuries Royales) and Joan of Arc came to Le Rivau in 1429 to acquire horses. This is one of the doors leading into the Ecuries Royales building.
