This was effected, althoughone of the captured gun-boats was blown up, carrying with herLieutenant Caldwell, Midshipman Dorsey, and ten others. In thissecond attack, lorty-eight shells and five hundred twenty-four pound-shot were thrown into the town. On the night of the 24th, anotherattack was made upon the city, which lasted until da^^light. It wasrenewed at half-past one of the 28th, when a warm action tookplace between thirteen of the enemys gun-boats, supported by theirbatteries and the gun-boats and smaller vessels of the of the enemys vessels was sunk, and two more were cannonade was renewed on the 3d of September, with muchinjury to the bashaws EXTERPRISE OF GENERAL EATON.
