John A. Roebling (1806–1869) was a German-born American civil engineer. He won renown for his wire rope suspension bridge, and especially his design of the Brooklyn Bridge in New York. The images shown here show: wrapping the cables, testing the steel, and crossing the span. The bottom illustration shows New York and the Brooklyn Bridge. The illustration dates to 1891.
