The Forth Bridge From east of South Queensferry in Edinburgh Scotland connecting rail services with Fife with train passing over
The Forth Rail Bridge was built in 1883-1890 to carry the main railway line from Edinburgh to Aberdeen. The design was by Sir John Fowler and Sir Benjamin Baker. Sir William Arrol was responsible for the construction. Its main span of 521 was the longest in the world when built. The total length is approximately km including viaducts. The steel bridge tends to suffer from corrosion and repainting is almost an ongoing process. A major rust removal and future prevention job has just been completed.
