Cautious dealers are booking orders for hyacinth bulbs "subject to advance in duty," there being a fair prospect that the new tariff bill will be law before this season's crop moves, and a possi- bility that the old rate on hyacinth bulbs, $ per thousand, vyill be restored. Seedsmen generally still are going at top pace. Mail orders are holding up unusually well and counter trade, espe- cially west of the Alleghenies, is heavy as April closes. The season has been a peculiar one thus far, but most houses have found it favorable; they are look- ing for a new record when the filial footing up is reached. The seed trade should write to con- gressmen and senators asking for a change in the tariff bill on seeds not specially provided for. In the present law the rate is 10 cents per pound, and there are a number of objections to it. In the new bill now pending the rate is changed to fifteen per cent ad valorem.
