Charlestown is a popular tourist village and fishing harbour on the south coast of Cornwall, United Kingdom. Lock gates separate the inner from the outer harbour. A historic ship museum occupies the inner harbour. Located to the south-east of the large town of St Austell. Charlestown harbour developed in the late-18th century from the fishing village of West Polmear. Recently the village has been used as a scenic backdrop for the BBC TV series 'Poldark'.
