Aninga arum leaves, Amazonia, Brazil. The large leaf at centre is part of an aninga arum plant (Montrichardia arborescens). This area of the Amazon is part of the Mamiraua Sustainable Development Reserve, a large area of rainforest on the upper reaches of the Amazon, in the state of Amazonas in western Brazil. The reserve, which floods in the wet season, sustains a huge diversity of plants and wildlife. It was established in 1996, and is listed as a Ramsar Wetland of International Importance.
