San Francisco, United States - May 1986; FishermanÕs Wharf, on the northern waterfront, is one of the city's most popular tourist areas. Souvenir shops and stalls selling crab and clam chowder in sourdough bread bowls are everywhere; it also offers picture-postcard views of the bay, Golden Gate and Alcatraz as well as a colony of sea lions which is well used to noisy humans. This was the first - but definitely not the last - place where I ever tasted proper San Francisco sourdough bread.
