In all the remaining races of this species the frontal horn isrudimentary ; and the limbs are more or less fully spotted to thehoofs. The first of these races is the Angola giraffe {G. ), which is typified by a mounted male in Mr. RothschildsMuseum at Tring (fig. 72), from the Cunene river, i 50 miles south-west. The spots on the face are confined to an area lyingbelow a longitudinal line running beneath the eye to the angle of themouth ; and there is a small and indistinct triangular area below theear in which the ground-colour is white. The body-spots are large,with ill-defined margins, and brown in colour ; but there is a suddenbreak into smaller spots about the middle of the thigh. The ground-colour is white or whitish ; and the legs are fully spotted to the hoofs, 366 GIRAFFE GROUP with the ground-colour of their lower portion tawny. The frontal hornis represented by a low tuberosity or swelling. This race differs from the southern giraffe, as represented by an oldbull formerly exhibited in the British Museum, by the lighter ground-colour, the more net-like type of coloration, the browner colour of thespots, and the greater degree to which the latter ext
