View of Ajanta Caves, near Aurangabad in Mharashtra, just after the monsoons. A set of 30 rock cut caves, these are perhaps the finest exacmple of ancienty Indian art and as such are preserved as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The caves have a fine collection of rock cut sculpture, architecture and paintings depicting ancient Indian life from the 4-6th Century BC, as well tales from Buddhism.
