Moulin de Frouville Pensier, Eure et Loir, France

Located 10 km from Châteaudun, between the roads to Orléans and Meung-sur-Loire, in the commune of Ozoir-le-Breuil, the mill has been built since the 13th century on a site that is likely well-winded. At this location, in 1274, there was a seigneurial wooden post mill, and from this date, the name "Fouvilla" appears in the archives. Since that time, no fewer than three mills have succeeded one another on this site. First, there were two post mills (wooden post and rotating cage). Then, following the fire of 1822, Mr. Grignon d'Ouzouer, deputy of Orléans and the new owner, had the mill rebuilt in stone in its current form (as evidenced by the inscription on the lintel of the western door). Put out of service by a storm, this stone tower mill, 15 meters high and dating from 1826, was only repaired in 1881. Abandoned during World War II, it was the ARAM Beauce and the Association for the Preservation of the Frouville Mill that undertook its restoration from 1982 to 1991. It has been magnificently restored, and its 21-meter-wide sails are to be canvassed. Its mechanism is complete: two sets of millstones ( m and m in diameter) and a large bolter. Mr. Daniel Accault, a journeyman of the Tour de France, was the master craftsman of all the wooden parts. The mill has been listed in the Supplementary Inventory of Historic Monuments since July 4, 1988, and was inaugurated by François Léotard and Maurice Denset on June 15, 1991.
