Biodegradable plastics research, Senegal. Researcher Yannick Combet-Blanc collecting plastic bags from a landfill site in Senegal. This is part of work to develop biodegradable plastics that will decompose, rather than use ordinary plastics that pollute the environment for hundreds of years. Combet-Blanc is director of research at the French Development Research Institute (IRD), which studies the relationship between humans and the environment.
