Lumen is a metalmade according to a patented formula, and it is claimed, possessesmany qualities as a bearing metal not found In phosphor and otherbronzes. According to tests made by Prof. Carpenter, of CornellUniversity, it has a specific gravity of ; average tensile. strength of over 30,000 pounds per square Inch; average compres-sive strength of over 75,000 pounds per .square Inch; and electricallonduitivity of 22 per cent compared with pure copper. Bulk forbulk is from 15 per cent to 25 per cent lighter than bronze. Itwill not score or cut the shaft, journal or pin, and runs cool underpressures that crush other alloys. Mr. Edward P.
