At upper centre, most of the penis and its blood vessels are removed, retaining the urethra (for the passage of urine) and the nerves (yellow) to the glans (the sensitive tip of the penis). At lower centre, penile inversion is carried out as part of the surgical construction of a vagina (vaginoplasty). At bottom, the glans of the penis has been retained and performs the function of the clitoris (clitoroplasty). The urethra is also present, and the vaginal canal has been constructed. This operation is typically carried out to treat gender dysphoria in transgender people.
