The underframe is of the same general type as is fur-nished by the builders of this car, the Ralston Steel CarCo., for application under present wooden equipment, or as afoundation for equipment for composite freight cars of any type,and consists of a heavy box girder type of center sill, built upof two 15 in., 33 lb., channels, set 13 in. apart, having a yi plate on top extending the full length of the car and asimilar cover plate on the bottom extending nearly to thebolsters. The two channels are notched at either end and theweb is bent down, forming a shelf for supporting the woodenend sills of the car. The draft castings are riveted directly tothe web of
