The inspec-tion of a single such nest, says Mr. Balfour—and in this I fullyconcur—is sufficient to show that the follicular epithelium takesits origin from the germinal epithelium, and not from the stromaor tubuliferous tissue. Concerning the small cells with modified nuclei, Mr. Balfoursuggests three possibilities, and thinks they may have all threedestinations : that they become cells of the follicular epithelium,are developed into ova, or are absorbed as a kind of food by thedeveloping ova.
