Floor mosaic representing a centaur, from the Acropolis of Rhodes. The cartel says :" The Centaur, ivy-crowned, is depicted at his return from hunting. With his extended right hand he displays his game, a hare, while in his left hand he holds his equipment, a λαγωβόλο (sling). The Centaur's figure, rendered in white and greys pebbles, dominates the scene and is projected on a dark background of pebbles set in red mortar. The anatomical details of the fabulous creature are emphasized with rough lines of bluish pebbles. The panel is framed by a wave-band, the outline of which is delineated with fine lead strips. Similar stripes emphasize the outline of the light-and-dark leaves on the wreath on the Centaur's head, as well as his eye and eyebrow."
