CRYSTAL CITY, VA. (Mar. 10, 2022) – Lt. Gen. Eric Fick, F-35 Joint Program Executive Officer (PEO), virtually presents the PEO Award for Excellence to Mr. Michael Rasmussen, the Software Senior Acquisition Manager assigned to Air Vehicle Mission Systems (AV-MS) PMO in Crystal City. This award is given annually to an individual or team that has gone above and beyond to move the Program forward. Mr. Rasmussen led a multi-Program Management Office (PMO) and stakeholder update of the Air System Playbook which improved scheduling for 30 capabilities and removed 16-years from the weapons timelines. He reinvigorated the Joint Capability Management Council which improved Air System alignment across five PMOs. He attacked the Deficiency Report backlog by prioritizing action with Service and National Deputies to resolve 65 Deficiency Reports and 710 Software Problem Action Requests. This resulted in a 10% software technology debt reduction. He crafted a plan for two out-of-cycle Operational Flight Programs to minimize the impact on software flow and addressed critical capes for Marine Corps, Navy, and United Kingdom deployments. Finally, he mentored new system engineers, bringing them into the team and giving them ownership of their programs. These efforts helped develop the next generation of System Managers. The F-35 Joint Program Office is the Department of Defense's focal point for the 5th generation strike aircraft for the Navy, Air Force, Marines, and our allies. The F-35 is the premier multi-mission, 5th generation weapon system. Its ability to collect, analyze and share data is a force multiplier that enhances all assets in the battle-space: with stealth technology, advanced sensors, weapons capacity, and range. The F-35, which has been operational since July of 2015, is the most lethal, survivable, and interoperable fighter aircraft ever built.
