Underwood With the passing of Mr. Yancey Thomas Ormond, East CarolinaTeachers College and the cause of education generally lost a true andtried friend. He was one of that small group in Eastern Carolinawho early saw the dire need of teacher training and worked withoutceasing for the establishment of an institution for this purpose. He had been a member of the Board of Trustees from the begin-ning and was vitally interested in every phase of its the death of Governor Jarvis he became Chairman of the Execu-tive Committee, and watched over the institution with all the devo-tion of a mother for a child. He was never too busy to consider itsinterests in life. He was really fond of the students, the faculty andofficers, of every-one connected with the institution.
