The prisoners were employed upon the bomb-proof casemates, which were nearly of these poor men offered for sale a smallclothes-brush, for which he asked a mere trifle,and I gave him more than he asked, to be dividedamong his fellow-prisoners: they were much pleased,and expressed their thanks warmly.
