The abandoned rail line known as the "Bronx Swamp" is seen in the Mott Haven neighborhood of the Bronx in New York on Monday, August 17, 2009. The one and one-half mile rail line runs from Port Morris to the Melrose station and was formerly abandoned by CSX in 2004 and there is no clear ownership of the tracks and the right of way. The NYC Dept. of Environmental Protection has begun draining the below grade tracks which has collected water and debris and has started to resemble a fetid canal. (© Richard B. Levine)
