This set of Robert Louis Stevenson, in twelvevolumes, was sent by him to his friend JulesSimoneau from time to time. Each volume hasa message on the fly leaf written by Ste\-enson. The books are bound in deep green le\-ant, withthe laurus-nobilis lea\-es in just a shade hghtergreen inlays. This particular laurel grows withdark berries, and Miss Cole has inlaid these in apurple, almost plum color and with silk linings tomatch this purple. Her combinations of colormight suggest the bindings of M. Maurius Michelor the early painted and stained effects. The inlaid panel on the twelfth volume of theStevenson-Simoneau set represents a bit of thecove at Monterey. The sky is mottled andstormy looking, though in it are all the afterglow.
