RSPB Nature Reserve, Rimmer's Marsh with cold moist air over wetlands caused by an atmospheric inversion- a misty condition where a layer of cool air forms ground fog. This area, part of the internationally important Ribble Estuary, is a delightful balance of meadow land & wetlands which provide a perfect habitat for summer grazing & wetland birds and important refuge in winter for pink-footed geese and other wildfowl.
Part of the internationally important Ribble Estuary, Marshside has some of the best lowland wet grassland in the north-west of England. It is an important refuge in winter for pink-footed geese, wigeons, black-tailed godwits and golden plovers and in spring provides nesting places for lapwings and redshanks, which are declining elsewhere.
