Nuclear Waste Burial at Waste Isolation Pilot Plant

Carlsbad, New Mexico - Workers prepare transuranic nuclear waste from America's nuclear weapons program for long-term storage at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant. The materials are stored in rooms carved out of an ancient salt formation a half mile below the Chihuahuan Desert. Here a fork lift moves a TRUPACT shipping container used to transport nuclear waste by truck from distant places.
