After a siesta, the horses havingcome, we mounted and trotted gailyaway ; that is, Mr. Adams did, but as1 had not been on horseback since Iwas ten years old, I felt anything butfrivolous. A Mexican saddle, however,kept me within bounds, and very soonthe trail entered the virgin forest andgot so rough and muddy that the trotcalmed down to a walk, much to mysatisfaction.
