Olive-brown above, golden-yellow beneath, sometimes with rather indis- tinct darker longitudinal streaks following the series of scales; a blackish opercular spot; head usually with small brown or blackish spots, as often also on anterior part of body ; young with 7 to 10 narrower vertical dark bars ; dorsal fin with more or less distinct dark and light longitudinal streaks.
