Spoil heaps at the Levant Tin Mine looking towards Geevor Mine, St Just, Cornwall. The red ore spoil heaps which makes the landscape around the Levant mine look like the surface of Mars contains tin and arsenic contaminants, and as a result little vegetation has been able to re-colonise since the mine was finally abandoned in 1991.
