Civil War in USA was difficult for everyone, both in the North and South.

The Torch Lake locomotive was built in 1873 at the Mason Machine Works in Taunton Mass. It was used for many years as a switcher and then moved to the Upper Peninsula at a copper mine. In 1933 the engine was put in storage until 1966. The engine was removed and given to Henry Ford Museum as a gift and a new boiler was ordered to allow the engine to meet todays standards. It was also changed from and wood burner to oil fired.
