We believe, however, that this will, atno distant day, be clearly established, and that with thisdemonstration will come changes in the methods and facili- Conduit Electric Railway. We illustrate herewith a conduit electric railway sys-tem, for which a patent has recently been granted toMr. Daniel OFlaherty, a well-known civil engineer ofKansas City, Mo. The object of the system is to providesuch a construction as will obviate the leakage of cur-rent, to which end a contact with the cable is made suc-cessively by connections interposed between the cableand a contact shoe depending from the car, the inter-posed mechanism being moved out of contact with the. Referring to the accompanying illustration, it will beseen that a shoe depending from the car strikes a con-tact roller, the shoe being of a length sufficient to bealways in contact with two of these rollers, and at timeswith a third one. When the shoe strikes the roller, thespring-actuating rod carrying it is repressed, and theouter end of the rod forced into contact with the exposed
