Carreg Fawr farmhouse showing the house well & rainwater collection butts: one of the 'model farms' built on Bardsey Island 1870-75 by Lord Newborough. Groundwater is pumped from the well for drinking, rainwater collected from the roof for washing etc. Artist & writer Brenda Chamberlain lived on Bardsey 1947-61, mainly in Carreg farmhouse; she described her experiences in the book Tide-race published in 1962.
