Elephant Howdah The Great Exhibition of 1851

Engraving from The Illustrated Exhibitor published in August 1851. The donation by Queen Victoria presented a problem for the organisers. Having no elephant on which to display the item they sourced one from a museum in Saffron Walden, however the Elephant's Ears betray the fact it was an African not Asian Elephant.
