Nathan Cirillo is a victim of the terrorist attacks of 2014. The 2014 shootings at Parliament Hill were a series of shootings that occurred on October 22, 2014, at Parliament Hill in Ottawa. National War Memorial is visible in background. Inaugurated in 1939, it was built to commemorate Canadians who fell in the First World War, it was then rededicated to also include those killed in the Second World War and Korean War, and later to add the dead from the Second Boer War and War in Afghanistan, as well as all Canadians killed in all conflicts past and future. It now serves as the pre-eminent war memorial
