Thatching industry Chillesford Suffolk England

Thatchers preparing water reed into bundles by hand in traditional fashion. One man holds a loose bundle of reeds and the other uses a fork to scrape out the unwanted green shoots at the reed base. The sheaf is then bound together with twine. The backgound shows the barn where water reeds having been cut over winter have been stored to dry out.
