Neuge-bauer^Mias obtained by cauterization 15 recoveries in 133 cases, buthe has also had one death from this method of treatment. If the CICATRICIAL FISTULJE OF THE VAGIISTA cauterizations fail,, we shall have to have recourse to one of the twofollowing operations for closing the fistula: 1. Denudation and suture. 2. Cystoplasty by dissection of the anterior portion of the cervixand suture according to Follets method. Denudation and suture were first successfully practised by Jobertof Lamballe (1849) in a case which was for a long time unique. Simonhas done but one such operation. Several successful cases have beenreported by Emmet,^^ Kaltenbach, Lessen, Martin, Muller,**! Schroder/^.
